The “web” can “save” Oakland. Proposals:
- Update of Oakland’s information system and access including crime data and streamlining citizen interaction with City of Oakland’s employees.
- Community web sites fostering neighbor interaction and interaction with local businesses.
- A “bug”/ticketing system allowing neighbors to get “bugs” fixed, for example pot holes, graffiti and blight, etc.
- Use of the Web for funding Oakland programs.
- City wide free web access.
- Oakland Technology Center to attract talent from UC Berkeley and other silicon valley companies to set up shop in Oakland; to encourage basic computer literacy, and to manage public access for Oakland citizen’s to computers and the Web.
